Ripples Through Time - 031

I'm reading every Aquaman solo adventure in publication order, one per day. After I read each story I'm going to post the cover/splash page and a few thoughts on the story.

More Fun #102 Aquaman Splash Page
More Fun #102 (March 1945) - Silent Sounds!

Aquaman feels a strange vibration under the ocean, and tracks it to its source: A project on ultrasonic waves.

The real fun of this tale is the "ferrocrystallizing" illustrations. The iron atoms are drawn as happy little spheres holding hands, until the vibrations make them grab their... um... heads and let go of their neighbors. Thus weakening the iron enough for Aquaman to escape. Yay science!

The bad guys are both named "Rocky". Later in the story they distinguish between each other by calling each other "Big Rocky" and "Little Rocky". Reminds me of three guys in college who had the same name who distinguished themselves by adding the prefixes "Wee", "Not-so-wee", and "Frigging Huge".

Aquaman sets up his own type of vibrations by throwing the flywheel of the boat's motor off balance. That shakes the ship enough to break the ultrasonic wave generator and take down the baddies.

The Rockies end up in prison togs breaking rocks, while Aquaman finds a distant Northern island for the scientists to work on. There are seals there, but Aquaman wants the seals to leave the island because of hunters, so it all works out in the end.

Finny Friends Report: No help from sea life in this issue, but we get a cool lesson with cute little iron atoms.

Captured/Knocked Out report: One of the doctors tries to throw a gun to Aquaman during the fight, and knocked Aquaman out instead.

Quotefile: Little Rocky, "Hey - Dis ship is jitterbuggin'!"

Have you read this story? What do you think?
