I'm reading every Aquaman solo adventure in publication order, one per day. After I read each story I'm going to post the cover/splash page and a few thoughts on the story.
Want to read these stories yourself? Write to DC: Dan Didio, Executive Editor, DC Comics, 1700 Broadway, New York NY 10019 and ask for a reprint of Aquaman's Golden Age tales.
Adventure #113 (February 1947) - Fathoms in Film!
The actor playing the role of Merman in a movie based on Aquaman's adventures becomes jealous when he is constantly told to act more like Aquaman.
It's odd, but no character is actually named in this one. The actor has a point... he's only known as "Merman" and never by his name! This is yet another instance of Aquaman getting involved in show business. I should start counting the times he ends up on TV or Film.
Aquaman knows Morse Code. He sends out an S.O.S. then gives his position in Morse. The fish must've also told him where he was.
Finny Friends Report: Aquaman wrestles a shark away from the filming area, and gets a pod of porpoises to chase it away. The fish tell Aquaman who locked him up. An electric eel powers the old radio so Aquaman can call for help. Aquaman uses a torch to free Merman from a "giant man-eating clam".
Captured/Knocked Out report: Merman uses underwater chloroform to knock out Aquaman and then locks him in the radio room of an old wreck.
Quotefile: Merman, in his dressing room, "Aquaman! Do it like Aquaman! Like Aquaman! I'm sick of hearing about Aquaman!"
Have you read this story? What do you think?
