I'm reading every Aquaman solo adventure in publication order, one per day. After I read each story I'm going to post the cover/splash page and a few thoughts on the story.
Adventure #120 (September 1947) - Aquaman Goes to College!
After Aquaman is stung by the spines of an unfamiliar fish, he decides to attend college to learn more about sea life.
Lovely art in this one. The fish with poisonous spines is genuinely freaky looking. The college scenes are nicely done. Aquaman makes a good-looking student, wearing glasses and a turtleneck. He climbs up to a water tank for a swim after classes.
An alumnus of Weston College, Mr Reed, finances the college almost single-handedly. Professor Hatcher seems certain that the school will close without his money. But Mr Reed wants the school to win athletic events, and threatens to stop financing the school if they don't win a swimming meet. Guess who overhears?
Finny Friends Report: Early in the story, Aquaman is stung by an unfamiliar fish, and became sick for several days. At the swim meet, he is warned about Reed's peril by an eel who swam through "miles of water pipes" to reach Aquaman. Aquaman gets an octopus and a whale to help him free Reed and his crew.
Captured/Knocked Out report: Not in this story. But Aquaman does wear glasses.
Quotefile: Aquaman, explaining why he's leaving to his fishy friends, "The ocean's too big for a man to learn all about it from his own experience! So I've decided to go to college to study about fish!"
