I'm reading every Aquaman solo adventure in publication order, one per day. After I read each story I'm going to post the cover/splash page and a few thoughts on the story.

Adventure #131 (August 1948) - The Undersea Post Office!

Cap'n Gregg is about to earn the mail charter for a remote island route after a year's trial, but his final trip runs into disruptions.

There's a map on the opening page, upon which someone is pointing out Cap'n Gregg's route, but for the life of me I can't figure out where in the world it's supposed to be. I think it's an attempt to draw Indonesia and the Phillipines, but not only does that not make a lot of sense, it's also missing a lot of key land mass.

The opening splash actually has nothing whatsoever to do with the rest of the story. It shows Aquaman with a trident attacking two men in diving suits opening a safe full of cash. No post office there, no mail, and there aren't any diving helmets in the rest of the story. This might be the first time a splash page for Aquaman depicted something completely different than the story. It won't be the last time.

Aquaman gets a whole sack of mail from Cap'n Gregg. Fan mail, "as usual". Heh.

Finny Friends Report: At the beginning of the story, Aquaman is riding on a giant sea turtle. He has a giant turtle, two octopi, and a swordfish fight off sharks to save a member of Cap'n Gregg's crew. Aquaman has a swordfish, flying fish, and a sea-eel deliver mail. When the flying fish and their mail bag are shot by Barton's crew, Aquaman has tiny squids plug the holes in the bag, then dolphins carry the mail to its destination while Aquaman takes a ride on another large fish to deal with Barton. Aquaman has a whale bump the ship then lobsters attack Barton and his crew.
