More NYCC 2015 Cosplay!

Let's start with this guy, who showed up in two galleries:

The flying shark is a nice touch in this image...

I do like his seahorse.

Then there was the slightly more serious armor-plated Aquaman:

This is just a nicely done costume. I love it.

And don't miss the selection of ToonZone photos of the awesome Saraphina cosplaying as Mera, something she's done at other conventions. I'm amused by the Batusi shot...

Be sure to check out the galleries of all the cosplayers Batusi-ing!

More from San Diego!

I'm in San Diego, a couple weeks too late for the big con, I know, but I'm here for Oz Con International 2015 (aka Winkie Con). In the dealers room I met folks promoting Costume Con 36, which will be held in San Diego in spring of 2018. I promised to give them a little bit of publicity on my blog, then visited their website and facebook page when I got back to my room. To my delight, the facebook page has link to some flickr pools of photos of costumes from San Diego Comic-Con... including this Aquaman that I hadn't yet seen:

The one on the right. The one on the left is here, but in this photo you can see her shoes.

There's also some photos of Flapper Aquawoman. Check out all the sets.

San Diego Cosplay (finale)

I'll say I'm saving the best for last on this one. I really enjoy Mera costumes, but I don't see many of them. She's a tough cookie to pull off. The Bombshell Mera, however, is simply excellent in design and has a handful of different costumes already. So seeing this costume made me squee inside.

Harley doesn't look bad, either.

If you have any photos of Aquaman-related cosplay at San Diego, or any other convention, please let me know in the comments. Feel free to drop a link to cosplay photos or ask me for somewhere to send a photo. I'll host cosplay photos of Aquaman-related characters here on my site.

Along the same lines, if you know the names any of these cosplayers prefer to go by so I can give them credit for their work, please use the comments to let me know. If you put "don't publish" in a comment, I'll take the information but not publish the comment itself.

San Diego Cosplay (part four)

Let's take a look at a couple of more traditional versions of Aquaman, shall we? Ok, one is traditional, one it... well, shirtless. This first one is actually a screen cap from an IGN video, so go watch the video. They end it with Aquaman.

This next fellow got around the con quite a bit, and was often paired up with Wonder Woman. Look at other cosplay pages to find him in other shots.

He's also in this gallery and here.

San Diego Cosplay (part three)

Yes, I'm not quite done with female Aquaman costumes. Today we have a very Earth-11 version along with one of the more original takes on the Aquaman design I've ever seen.

The tattoos only add to the sheer awesomeness.

A flapper version of Aquaman makes perfect sense.

Many thanks to David Oakes, longtime contributor to this blog, for the photo of Aqua-Flapper, who was in a hurry to get to a volunteer shift, but stopped a moment for a photo.

As always, if you have more cosplay photos, feel free to post a comment with a link to the photos. I moderate all comments, so I will see it.

San Diego Cosplay (part two)

So, let's head back to San Diego and look at some more costumes. These next two are part of a trend that I heartily approve of: Aquawoman! Now, I'd like to see some Earth Two: Society Aquawoman cosplay, but until then, I really enjoy the various takes on Aquaman's costume. Both of these use netting to great effect with the trident.

The only thing I'm not sure about is the boots.

I quite like the sandals, and the inclusion of a themed-bag for her possessions is also useful while cosplaying.

As it happens, women dressing as Aquaman goes back a long way. Here's an instance from 1959:

Coming tomorrow: More Aquawomen!

That looks like Mera to me...

There's a Cosplay Fashion Show in Manhattan tonight, according to Bleeding Cool, and on the poster advertising it is this gal, who appears to be dressed as Mera.

Event: NERD Fashion ComicCon
Date: July 24th
Time: 7pm
Location: Lovecraft and The Set, NYC

This Friday Set NYC and Lovecraft NYC are presenting their NERD Fashion Comic Con. The event will be a gathering of all aspects of nerd culture. The event will feature a Fashion, Cosplay, special performances, screenings, and more.

If anyone goes, please let me know how it went and if Saraphina was indeed dressed as Mera.

Update: Yup, that's who she's dressed as according to her Facebook page.

Many thanks to Rei Shaw for the tip!

San Diego Cosplay (part one)

I didn't go to San Diego, but I saw a lot of excellent Aquaman cosplay in various round-ups. I've collected what I was able to find, so let's start with a slightly surprising trend... Aquaman costumes based on the single photo of Momoa's Aquaman that we've seen so far. I found three distinct costumes. To go to the original photo gallery that contains these, just click the picture.

Pity about the expression on this guy's face. He looks vaguely pop-eyed, which brings up thoughts of a completely different sea-related character.

The choice to not go shirtless was probably a good one, as very few guys can really pull it off. I do wonder if this might be a different character entirely.

This guy clearly went to a lot of effort, and he gets props for that. I'm impressed.

Have you spotted any Momoa-based Aquaman costumes from San Diego or any other conventions? If you have a photo or a link to one, please comment. Thanks!

Where's Mermaid Man?

Barnacle Boy is better represented at ECCC than Mermaid Man!

Monday, April 13, 2015

Wait, Another Little Mermaid?

What was it with badass versions of the Little Mermaid this year?
Aquaman would approve.

Little Mermaid?

Ok, so she's not particularly Aquaman-related, but the costume is so cool I couldn't resist...

Another Emerald City Aquaman

Great costume, even if his significant other made it look like he has a head in his backpack...

Saturday, April 04, 2015

Aquaman is hip

Actually, this entire family is really hip. I'm a fan!

Friday, April 03, 2015

That is a great costume...

I do wonder if he managed to defeat any of the Aquamen wandering around the con...

Thursday, April 02, 2015

Yay! Aquaman!

Aquaman at Emerald City Comicon!
But he wasn't the only one... more to come...

Monday, March 30, 2015

That's not Aquaman....

A nice pair of Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy from Emerald City Comicon
