News on The Others
The Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2) had a DC panel that included a bit about Aquaman and the Others from Dan Jurgens:
What do you think?
...the series will explore the mystic Atlantean artifacts that empower the team created by Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis. He noted that "We have some expansion going forward that we can build on a little bit" with more mystic Atlantean gold whose weapons have never been revealed. At another panel at C2E2, Jurgens also mentioned the book and said:
...there are ten weapons, and not all have been revealed.Let's see... The Trident, The Sceptre (destroyed in the battle against the Dead King), The Mask, The Key, The Manacles of Force, The Globe of Transportation and The Seal of Clarity. That's seven... However, the trident seems to pre-date the others by a bit and may not actually count as one of the ten.

Superhero Beers - a design project
I don't drink beer, so this design project doesn't interest me as much as it might other folks. Still, an interesting idea. I'd be more inclined to buy a nice ginger ale with a superhero label than a beer.

IGN has posted a review of Aquaman #30. Short summary, it gets an 8.5.
People are always coming up with ideas for an Aquaman movie. Here's another. I don't agree with everything, but I don't entirely disagree, either.

DC for July
Against my better judgement, I put together a page on the wiki just for this month's solicits, which are, frankly annoying.
In addition to Aquaman's standard book and Aquaman and the Others, Aquaman will also have an annual. That's not the annoying part. Then Justice League #32 is resolicited, along with a new solicit for Justice League #33. Mildly annoying.
No, the thing I find annoying are the solicits for a whole bunch of Future's End one-shots, to be published in September! The reason for the advance solicits appears to be the 3-D motion covers, which DC underestimated the demand for last time. Considering how annoyingly worthless those Forever Evil 3-D motion covers were (virtually no covers took advantage of the motion), unless they give me a really good reason to order the 3-D version this time, I'll be opting for the standard covers. And there are NO preview images or creative teams listed for the one-shots, so I'm not seeing any reasons. I found the Forever Evil 3-D covers to be utterly underwhelming.
In all honesty, I also find the cover to this month's Aquaman to be... well, ugly. I understand that guys like big boobs, but there's a limit to what looks good. Frankly those things look neither real nor good on Mera. Seriously, they wouldn't even have to be too dramatically smaller to make it look good. Just put them in the right place (her left breast is drooping so badly she looks malformed) and shrink them so they aren't almost as big as her head. Mera's figure is the only problem with the cover. The composition is ok, background interesting... but the giant malformed/misplaced breasts just make the thing look wrong.

DC for July - Aquaman Annual?
Tako's Nonsense has posted a list of DC books for July 2014, and it includes a couple of items of interest to Aquaman fans.
The most dramatic thing is that all of DC's regular books will apparently be tie-ins to Future's End. The next most exciting item is Aquaman Annual #2. Very nice, if true. We already know about New Suicide Squad #1, which will feature Black Manta.
I will note that this list hasn't been confirmed... so I'll be posting the regular solicits as soon as they start to appear from DC (which could be today, who knows?). But in the meantime, it's some news to chew on.

Justice League Movie that almost was...
A bunch of pictures of a bunch of actors are making the rounds, with the note that the group was in pre-production on a Justice League movie before it was scrapped at the last minute. Thanks to Bleeding Cool, here's an apparent source of the images, though they were originally taken from Facebook and the IMDB.
A guy named Santiago Cabrera was set to play Aquaman. He's the one with the beard.

Sales Update
According to ICv2, Aquaman #29 was at #57 on the top 100 list for March. Batman and Aquaman #29 did a little better, ranking in the top 50 at #37.
Actual sales continue to drop, but not as fast as the last two months. It's anyone's guess how this will turn out.

Variant Cover Friday
My most recent favorite variant theme has got to be the Steampunk covers by DC. Fortunately, Aquaman got one, and this is the result from artist Richard Horie. If this were made into a poster, I think I'd probably buy it.
For most of the current Aquaman run, there have been B&W sketch variants. I like the movement toward theme variants, even if I'm not all that interested in getting them myself.
